Product description
What it is and what you get: The eKyro Smart Garage Door Controller is a universal WiFi module that hooks into your existing garage opener. The kit typically includes the controller module, a door state sensor (magnetic/contact), a short two‑wire harness for the opener terminals, adhesive mounting pad and basic mounting screws, plus a quick-start guide.
Construction and size: The electronics are housed in a durable ABS plastic case with metal screw terminals for the wiring. The unit is compact and palm-sized (roughly 3 x 2 x 1 inches), designed to sit next to the opener motor without blocking vents or moving parts. The included sensor is a small magnet/contact pair that mounts on the door and frame with adhesive.
How it connects and works: The controller joins your home WiFi network and is managed via the companion app. Once configured you can open and close the door remotely, check door status, set automatic close schedules, and receive alerts if the door remains open. It also integrates with voice assistants — Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri — and works with both iOS and Android devices, including smartwatches and systems that use the Smart Life platform.
Compatibility and extras: The adapter is compatible with most sectional and overhead openers by using the same two terminals the wall switch uses. Some specialty models require a small accessory to translate signals; that adapter is available separately. Multiple units can be installed if you have more than one door, but each door needs its own controller. Core functions do not require a subscription, though premium alert methods (SMS or phone calls) may incur extra charges from third‑party services.
Pros
- Simple install and palm‑sized footprint
- Works with major voice assistants and mobile platforms
- No monthly fee for core features
Cons
- Not compatible with some niche openers (Ryobi excluded)
- Adhesive mount may need reinforcement
- Certain garage models require an extra accessory
VerdictThis WiFi controller turns a conventional garage unit into a networked, voice-enabled opener with a simple install and reliable operation. It pairs with major voice platforms and mobile devices, provides real-time open/closed status via a supplied sensor, and avoids monthly fees for the main features. A handful of specialty openers need an add-on accessory, and a few mounting adhesives can be frag

No more wondering if the door is open
I like being able to see open/closed status in the app thanks to the included sensor. Opening or closing from anywhere is effortless — the controller uses the same two wires as the wall switch, so setup matched my existing opener. It feels like pressing the wall button, even when I’m far away.

Handy smart home upgrade
Installation was straightforward and the app is intuitive. Remote control and status alerts give peace of mind when I'm away. Integration with other smart home devices behaved as expected. It’s a practical way to add convenience and an extra security check to a standard opener.

Highly recommended — simple and effective
If you forget to close the door, this will save you headaches. The app works from out of state, installation was easy, and it’s been dependable. The only minor issue was the adhesive failing on occasion — a quick reinforcement fixed it and it’s been fine since.

Second one bought for an elderly parent — simple setup
This was my second unit — I liked the first so much I got another for my dad. Installation took under 30 minutes. It connects to Siri, Alexa and Google Home, and he now opens the garage using voice because handling the phone is tricky for him. Wi‑Fi setup was straightforward and voice control gives us flexibility depending on which device is nearby.

Stopped the remote guessing game — reliable on older opener
I replaced unreliable remotes for an older Craftsman unit and the eKyro is solid. I mounted a small plate on the motor and stuck the receiver on it so the antenna points toward the router. Wiring to the wall‑switch terminals was easy and response is instantaneous. The door sensor helps me verify status from my phone and adds a safety layer.

Worked where my previous system failed
I had trouble getting another brand to pair after swapping to a Genie opener. The other system never connected reliably. I also didn’t want an opener left in the car for security reasons. The eKyro connected to my Genie and has been dependable — a much more affordable fix than some competing services.

Solved my habit of leaving the door open
I used to forget to close the garage and this unit fixed that with repeat alerts. I set it to ping me every ten minutes when the door stays open; a single tap shuts it and I get a confirmation. You can pick the reminder interval or pause notifications when needed, and scheduled closes are available too.

Played nicely with my Smart Life/CarPlay setup
After another unit failed to work with my Google Home + iPhone, this one impressed. It integrates with the Smart Life app (iOS and Android) and even offers CarPlay interaction. My LiftMaster 8500 needed an extra free accessory; the eKyro sends a signal to that accessory which then triggers the opener. Ordering that add-on was simple and the whole setup works reliably.
