Product description
Construction and materials
The AquaBlade P Short is produced from solid virgin ABS, injection-molded as a single, waterproof component. The housing is white to increase contrast against darker algae films so you can spot missed areas easily. The standard cleaning edge is a cyan-colored, self-lubricating plastic formulated to be softer than acrylic substrates in order to reduce the risk of scratching when used correctly.
Included items and options
This listing covers the short hand-held scraper intended for smaller tanks and close-up work. The product family also includes a longer reach unit for large or hard-to-access aquariums and a metal blade variant made from 316 stainless steel for tackling very tough coralline growth.
Design benefits and hygiene
Because the tool is molded as a single piece, there are no seams where aquarium water can collect. That solid design helps avoid trapped moisture, unpleasant odors, and potential bacterial growth inside the cleaner. The white body improves visibility so you can see darker residue while wiping.
Usage guidance
For everyday soft algae, a few light strokes are sufficient. For hardened or encrusted deposits, use many light passes over time rather than heavy pressure in a single pass to minimize surface abrasion. Frequently rinse or wipe the blade to remove sand or grit that could cause scratches. Take care around silicone joints and rounded corners, and avoid scraping while gravel is being disturbed, as loose particles can abrade acrylic surfaces. When faced with tough coralline or mineral encrustations, switch to the 316 stainless steel blade option.
Care and longevity
Rinse and dry after use. The ABS construction gives strong resistance to warping and impact; the blade material is self-lubricating to glide across surfaces. Regular inspection and cleaning of the edge will prolong safe use on delicate acrylic panels.
Pros
- One-piece waterproof ABS body prevents trapped water
- Soft, self-lubricating blade designed to protect acrylic
- White body improves visibility while cleaning
Cons
- Can still scratch acrylic if used improperly
- Not ideal for rounded corners or tight radii
- Short model lacks a long handle for bigger tanks
VerdictThe AquaBlade P Short delivers robust, no-frills cleaning for small aquariums. Its one-piece virgin ABS body keeps water out and reduces bacterial growth inside the tool while the cyan, softer-than-acrylic blade cleans effectively without gouging when used gently. It removes stubborn buildup on glass and acrylic with repeated light passes, but users should clear grit from the blade and avoid aggre

Okay for basic jobs
Does the job as expected. It’s a bit small and this short unit doesn’t include a longer handle.

Highly effective on glass
I tried a cheaper alternative first but it hardly worked. This one removed gunk from my glass with minimal effort. Take care around silicone seams, but otherwise I strongly recommend it.

Safe for acrylic when used gently
I worried about scratching but it performed well. For stubborn deposits, use light, repeated passes over several days and wipe the blade often to avoid grit scratches. Fresh algae cleans up easily.

Perfect size and lightweight
Handy size for reaching into the tank. Easy to use, light, and seems durable with good build quality.

My new go-to cleaning tool
First use today and it worked really well. Cleaning the tank has never been this easy.

Substantial alternative to a credit card
Feels like a thicker credit card with a handle for leverage. Be careful not to stir gravel while scraping, as grit can scratch acrylic.

Removed stubborn algae from Lexan lids
Algae had accumulated on my Lexan lids for months. A minute of mild scrubbing cleared it away—maybe tiny micro-scratches but perfectly acceptable for a lid.

Good for tight spots on glass
Bought this for a freshwater setup that was hard to clean. Molding is clean with no defects, and the small blade gets into tough corners.

Works well but struggles with rounded corners
Overall excellent performance, but it can still scratch acrylic if mishandled and it doesn’t conform to rounded corners.
