Product description
Dual-drive simultaneous access: The adapter can connect and read one IDE and one SATA drive at the same time. The IDE connector is a dual-head design supporting both 40-pin and 44-pin interfaces, while the SATA port works with standard SATA III devices. Compatible media include 2.5" and 3.5" IDE hard drives, 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives and SSDs, and optical drives such as CD/DVD-ROM and DVD-RW.
High-speed USB 3.0 with USB-A and USB-C support: Data moves at up to 5Gbps over USB 3.0 and the adapter is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1. The kit includes a USB 3.0 cable with a USB-A plug and a separate USB-C adapter so you can connect to either port type on modern or legacy computers.
Stable external power: A 12V/2A power adapter is provided to supply sufficient power for 3.5" drives and other power-hungry devices. A dedicated 4-pin Molex power cable is supplied and is required when powering 3.5" IDE drives; note that 3.5" SATA drives do not require the adapter’s Molex cable even if they have 4-pin connectors on the drive itself.
User-friendly operation: The device is plug-and-play—no driver installation is needed. It supports hot-swapping so you can swap drives without rebooting, and includes an on/off switch to protect disks during connection or removal. LED indicators show power and activity status so you can monitor drive operation at a glance.
Complete kit and support: The package contains the SATA/IDE adapter, a USB 3.0 cable, the 12V/2A powered adapter, and a 4-pin Molex power lead. Manufacturer support is available via email for troubleshooting and questions.
Pros
- Simultaneous IDE and SATA access
- USB-A and USB-C compatible at USB 3.0 speeds
- Includes 12V/2A power supply and 4-pin cable
Cons
- Documentation and model labeling can be confusing
- May need a powered USB port for reliable operation
- Connectors are snug and require careful alignment
VerdictThis Unitek adapter is a practical utility for anyone needing to read or copy data from legacy drives. It reliably addresses both IDE and SATA formats at the same time, offers USB-A and USB-C connectivity at USB 3.0 speeds, and includes a dedicated 12V/2A adapter to power larger 3.5" disks. The unit is straightforward to use—no drivers required—and its hot-swap ability and on/off control make hand

Solid adapter for older drives
Handled my task without a hitch. The connectors fit tightly—there’s little tolerance—but it accessed an older SSD cleanly. Would recommend.

Older unit, limited recognition
This appears to be an older revision and it only recognized one of my legacy drives.

Performs as advertised
Does exactly what it promises—handy for pulling data off older drives.

Handy for backing up or wiping bare drives
Has three connector types, but each is different so you can’t clone between identical form factors directly (for example 3.5" to 3.5"). It’s mainly a tool to back up bare drives or to inspect and erase them before disposal. My Seagate 2.5" disk was recognized reliably.

Used once and it worked flawlessly
Only needed it for a single recovery and it performed perfectly.

Excellent for salvaging files from unused PCs
Very easy to operate: attach the power to the adapter, connect the Molex 4-pin to the drive for IDE disks, seat the 40-pin ribbon, flip the unit’s switch and the drive appears in Windows Explorer with an assigned letter. Straightforward and reliable for retrieving old files.

Responsive customer support fixed my setup issue
I’ve accumulated many drives over the years and plugged them into this adapter. At first I couldn’t see the drives while everything was connected through a multi-port USB hub. Support replied quickly and explained that the hub was sharing power and recommended using a powered USB port or connecting directly to the PC. Their guidance resolved the visibility problem.

Absolutely saved my data
My Seagate external enclosure failed and this adapter let me access the drive contents. It appears the enclosure or its power supply was the issue. No setup required—plugged in and worked immediately.

Reliable and straightforward access
This adapter does what it should without fuss. I tried a few other units in the past, and this one gets my highest rating for reliability. If you need to access old drives, this is a dependable choice.

Brought back photos from over 20 years ago
Worked right out of the box. I hooked up three old hard disks and was able to browse and recover family photos dating back more than two decades. Some images were small due to older camera tech, but many came back in good quality. Simple to use and highly recommended for digging through old media.

Manual and labeling need work, otherwise useful
Pros outweigh the negatives for me, but documentation is a headache. The online manual link wasn’t for this exact unit, and the QR code directs to a general product page where finding the correct model is difficult. The model printed on the box didn’t match listings so I had to hunt for small print to identify the right manual. Functionally it works well, but the paperwork/labeling caused extra effort.

Recovered data from decades-old drives
I pulled drives out of broken laptops and dead desktops and managed to recover files from several different drives in a week. All three connector types worked as expected. I did need to assign drive letters in Windows to view the contents, but once that was done the files were accessible. A couple of drives were visible but Windows would not mount them, yet overall I was able to rescue what I needed and transfer it to modern large-capacity backups.
