Product description
A giant tabletop volcano that finishes at almost two feet tall, this kit is designed to make an impressive science experiment or fair display. The core of the project is a lightweight frame you cover with plaster wrap, then layers of plaster mix to shape the slopes and vents.
The set supplies a volcano mold and the plaster mix with tinting powder so you can color the surface before painting. Two small paint pots and a paintbrush are included for finishing touches. Once the plaster cures, kids can paint and detail the volcano to their liking.
For eruptions, the kit provides three packets of eruption powder plus pop crystals that produce crackling sounds during activation. The instructions also list safe household alternatives to extend the number of eruptions beyond the included packets.
Extras include genuine geode and pumice specimens to examine alongside the project, adding a real-rock element to the lesson. Expect some cardboard parts for the base and assembly pieces to support the structure while you work.
This product involves multiple steps—wrapping the frame, applying layers of plaster, waiting for drying, then painting—so it's best scheduled over a couple of days. When assembled and used as directed, it offers repeatable eruption demonstrations and a tactile introduction to volcanic concepts.
Developed by an award-recognized educational brand, the kit is backed by a U.S.-based support team to help with any questions during the build and experiment process.

No eruption
I followed the directions exactly and the volcano did not erupt at all.

So-so
Works fine, but setup takes significant time and the cardboard base was awkward to assemble.

Solid science activity
We had a great time building it. The layering process takes a few days, but the model held up for several eruptions.

Great build, weak finale
The crafting portion kept us occupied for hours and was a terrific hands-on project for my 4-year-old (the 2-year-old mainly watched). Assembly was more involved than I expected, which was fun, but the final eruption was disappointingly mild and didn’t deliver the dramatic finish we hoped for.

Very pleased overall
Arrived on time and looked bigger than expected—perfect for a gender reveal. Kit has everything you need, though the provided cup was small so I used a larger cup and a homemade lava mix for better flow. Allow plenty of drying time; not a quick project.
