Oatmeal Cinnamon Raisin Chocolate Chip Bites for Snack Time

Picture this.

You’re eight years old, sitting in the school cafeteria, about to open your lunch box. The lunch monitors have finally stepped away from their self-appointed thrones — they’ve stopped shushing you in the hallway long enough for you to finally eat.

You lift the lid and, beside the salami sandwich, pretzels, kiwi and a cookie, sits a box of raisins. RAISINS. The audacity.

Raisins were the worst — especially since they weren’t even tradeable. Who wants wrinkly raisins when you could swap for Oreos, Lunchables or Bugles? And how crushing is it to bite into what you think is a chocolate chip cookie only to discover it’s oatmeal raisin? The nerve.

Okay, I admit it: I used to hate raisins. Guilty as charged. I still won’t choose them over chocolate chips in a cookie, but these days I actually enjoy them. If you still dislike raisins, no problem — leave them out and double the chocolate chips. No shame.

Back-to-school season means fresh snack ideas: energy bites, healthy muffins, no-bake treats and all that good stuff. I’m down to the last two of my lemon poppyseed muffins and have been enjoying one every afternoon with an iced coffee. Bite, sip, repeat — perfect.

These oatmeal cinnamon raisin chip bites are a healthy, no-bake riff on classic oatmeal raisin cookies. There’s no food processor required — just dump everything into a bowl and stir. They won’t taste like a soft, buttery, warm cookie fresh from your grandmother’s oven, but if you want something tasty, portable, and easy, they’re a great option. The recipe is forgiving, so you can experiment with shredded coconut, walnuts, chia seeds or a splash of vanilla.

I haven’t tested this exact mixture with other liquid sweeteners, so I can’t promise the same texture if you swap the honey for pure maple syrup or agave. If you try it, let me know how it goes. These bites are slightly sweet from a couple tablespoons of honey, with little pops of chocolate and raisins. They’re not as sugary as a typical cookie — but if you’re making them as dessert, a spoonful of brown sugar will do the trick. Live a little.

Your lunchbox is calling.
