FZONE 24V Gyre Wavemaker — Crossflow Aquarium Powerhead with LCD

Product description

Crossflow circulation: The FZONE wavemaker employs crossflow technology to produce a broad, even current instead of a single-point jet. That wider sweep reduces stagnation zones and mimics natural ocean movement, making it suitable for both reef and freshwater setups.

What’s in the box and materials: Each package includes the gyre powerhead, an LCD wired controller, a 24V DC power supply, magnetic mounting hardware with sealed dry-side magnet, and necessary cabling. The powerhead body is molded from durable ABS plastic with a fully sealed motor assembly and coated magnets to resist corrosion in saltwater environments.

Controller and performance: The external LCD controller provides real-time feedback and lets you set power between 40% and 100%, choose from four modes (Constant, Pulse, Tidal, Turbulent), and dial frequency across 18 steps. A one-touch 10-minute feeding pause is built in for quick interruptions. The drive uses a multi-stage coil motor with sine-wave control for smoother, quieter operation.

Safety, noise and use: Running on a 24V low-voltage supply, the unit is designed for quiet, reliable performance with reduced vibration. Mount with the magnetic bracket on the tank wall and angle the outlet to shape circulation; many users aim slightly upward to generate surface travel. Ideal for moving detritus and improving gas exchange without concentrated jets.

Sizing options: Two models cover common aquarium lengths. FZ-1200 is rated up to 1,150 GPH and recommended for tanks up to 60 cm (≤ 23.6 in). FZ-1600 reaches up to 1,600 GPH for tanks 60–120 cm (23.6–47.2 in). Select the model based on aquarium volume and desired intensity — even the smaller model can produce substantial flow.

Pros

  • Wide, natural crossflow circulation
  • Quiet 24V sine-wave motor and sealed construction
  • Flexible modes and an intuitive LCD controller

Cons

  • Can be overpowering in smaller tanks if oversized
  • A minority of units reported mechanical failure
  • Some users want finer speed granularity

VerdictThe FZONE gyre wavemaker delivers wide, realistic circulation thanks to its crossflow design and a responsive LCD controller. It runs on a safe 24V DC sine-wave system for quiet, stable operation and includes multiple programmable modes and a convenient 10-minute feeding pause. Choose the FZ-1200 for smaller displays or the FZ-1600 for longer tanks; be mindful that even the medium unit can move a

    Good product and responsive company

My first unit was noisy out of the box, but their team provided useful troubleshooting and sent a replacement when needed. The replacement performed well — excellent gyre and even better service.

  2. Patrick Halye 1/5

Stopped working after a couple months

Worked flawlessly for about 10 weeks — loved the adjustable power and feeding mode. Then it developed a rattling noise as something inside failed and it quit. Disappointing given the initial performance.

  3. Stephen E Gates Jr 5/5

Extremely quiet, now in all my tanks

Very pleased — so quiet I installed the same model in every tank. Power is adjustable in clear increments, multiple modes available, and the unit itself produces virtually no noise. A great combination of affordability and quality.

  4. Zed 5/5

Well-suited for sump use, smart magnet design

High-quality gyre that handled my sump application well. Needed a submersible dry-side magnet and this model’s sealed design fit that requirement. It churns chaeto nicely and delivers plenty of flow. Support was responsive. My only wish is for more speed steps on the controller.

  5. Luke Oren Bragg 5/5

    Impressive flow — size matters

Really strong gyre for the price. I ordered the larger model at first and it overwhelmed my tank; customer support arranged an exchange to the medium size without hassle. The medium model now runs reliably and produces plenty of circulation even on low power. Pay attention to sizing — even the mid unit packs a punch. Solid control options and a handy feeding mode.

  6. Ashley 5/5

Quiet, powerful circulation with easy control

Small unit but moves a lot of water and fills the tank with a steady gyre. The LCD controller makes tuning fast and straightforward so I could eliminate dead spots. Magnetic mount holds firm and the motor is very quiet even at higher settings. Installation was simple and it’s energy efficient. Overall it improved filtration and flow in my aquarium more than I expected.

  7. Charles Rosenberg 5/5

Affordable and adaptable for planted tanks

Installed this in a 20-gallon cube to reduce a rear dead zone and it helped CO2 distribution immediately. I keep it at low tidal flow so plants aren’t disturbed and the new growth has stayed put. The controller offers many settings to experiment with, and it’s been easy to optimize as the plants settled in. Overall pleased after a week of use.

    Creates a reliable standing wave

Works nicely on my 35-gallon reef. Aim the outlet toward the surface, select Pulse, and step through the gear levels slowly to find the tank’s rhythm. One of the 18 steps produced the standing wave I wanted.

  9. Grant Lutz 4/5

Good first gyre — quiet and well-built

Satisfied with this circulator as an entry-level gyre. It’s fairly quiet and the controls are intuitive. If debris or trapped air gets inside it can make noise, but the mechanics themselves run smoothly. For the cost, it’s a solid option for newcomers.

My fish are thriving with this gyre

Running this unit for nearly a month and everything in the tank seems happier. Replaced two erratic wavemakers with this single gyre and saw immediate calming of corals and fish. Setup was effortless and the magnet strength is outstanding. Controls are intuitive so I dialed in a natural pattern quickly.
