Product description
Part of the V20 cordless tool family, this 5-inch random orbit sander is supplied as a bare tool only and runs on the V20 battery platform (battery and charger not included).
The sander operates at up to 12,000 orbits per minute for rapid material removal and smoothing. Its compact, low-profile chassis and relatively light weight help reduce vibration and make overhead or tight-area sanding easier. The power switch is sealed against dust for added longevity in workshop environments.
Dust control is handled two ways: an included detachable dust bag for quick cleanup, and a port that accepts most 1-1/4 in. vacuum hoses for connection to a shop vac. The kit comes with one dust bag plus three hook-and-loop sanding discs in 60, 80, and 120 grits so you can start work right away. The unit also fits the VERSATRACK wall organization system; clip and other mounting accessories are not included.
Pros
- Strong 12,000 OPM performance for efficient sanding
- Good dust management with bag and vacuum port
- Low-profile, lightweight design improves control
Cons
- Tool-only — batteries and charger sold separately
- Not a brushless model
- Slightly heavier with a battery attached
VerdictThis 5" V20 cordless orbital sander provides strong sanding performance for surface prep, paint removal, and smoothing seams without the hassle of a cord. The compact, low-profile body and dust-sealed switch improve control and durability. Dust management is flexible—use the supplied bag for quick jobs or hook up a 1-1/4 in. shop vacuum for cleaner results. It’s sold as a bare tool, so it’s most p

Does what it should
Battery drains faster than I’d like, but it’s a quality cordless sander and frees me from cord hassles.

Perfect fit for my V20 lineup
I already own several V20 batteries, so getting the tool-only sander was economical. It’s powerful enough for my shop tasks and I appreciate working without a cord.

Handy, tough, and great for the workshop
Switching from corded sanders was a big improvement—no extension cords to fuss with. Battery life gets me through small jobs; value is excellent if you use V20 batteries. Dust capture works well, it’s survived a couple drops, and the grip is comfortable. It’s a bit heavy with a battery but performs reliably.

Works great with battery adapter
Nice-looking tool. I didn’t have Craftsman batteries, so I used an adapter for my Makita packs—4Ah cells work very well. The sander has normal power for its size; paired with a 4Ah Makita on heavier tools like the router, performance is impressive.
