Product description
100% Radiata pine shavings, no additives: The bedding is made entirely from Radiata pine, with no chemical treatments, artificial fragrances or harsh impurities. The flakes are screened to remove coarse debris and retain a mild, natural wood aroma that is non‑irritating to poultry and small animals.
Low dust, soft and fluffy: A multi‑stage sifting process produces a loose, light texture that reduces airborne fine particles. Once the compressed block is opened the shavings expand into a soft, springy layer that cushions feet and bodies, creating a gentle surface for standing, resting and nesting.
High absorbency and odor reduction: The dense pine fibers are processed to increase water‑holding capacity, allowing the shavings to soak up moisture quickly and lock it away from the coop floor and nesting areas. The material also helps trap and neutralize odors, prolonging the time between full bedding changes.
Improves nesting conditions: A dry, odor‑controlled bedding surface supports calmer birds and cleaner eggs by reducing soiled nests and breakage. Comfortable nesting material can contribute to steadier laying behavior and overall flock wellbeing.
Pack size and versatility: Supplied as a compressed 80 oz (5 lb) block, this bedding is easy to store and expand as needed. It’s designed for chicken nesting boxes and coop floors but also suits ducks, rabbits and other small pets. Lightweight and replaceable, it’s convenient for spot changes or freshening up brooders and litter boxes.
Pros
- Untreated Radiata pine — no added chemicals
- Low dust and soft cushioning texture
- Strong moisture absorption and odor control
Cons
- Single 5 lb bag may be small for larger coops
- Some packaging and labeling inconsistencies reported
- May require more frequent topping up for heavy use
VerdictThis 5 lb pack of Radiata pine shavings delivers a chemical‑free, low‑dust bedding that expands into a soft, cushioning layer with strong moisture uptake and noticeable odor control. It works well for nesting boxes, brooders and small animal litter, though some buyers may find the single 5 lb bag size limiting and a few packaging inconsistencies raise questions for certain users.

Too many inconsistencies for my comfort
The block packs tightly but opens up easily and separates well. No chemical smell detected, but the labeling is inconsistent — listing claims Radiata while packaging suggests hemp — and there are a few typos on the bag. That lack of attention makes me uneasy about switching from my usual bedding.

Fine, fluffy shavings in a compact 5 lb pack
The shavings smell faintly of wood and have no chemical odor. The sealed 5 lb block needs breaking up but fluffs nicely and spreads easily. Pieces are small and compact, very low dust, and one hen seemed curious and kept returning to investigate. I also sprinkle diatomaceous earth for extra protection.

Misspellings and mixed labeling — hesitant to buy again
Label errors on the package make me question the product's presentation, though the shavings themselves look clean, are a good size and have low dust. The scent was unfamiliar to me and the material labeling is inconsistent between pine and hemp, so I’m reluctant to repurchase.

Excellent for rabbit litter — very absorbent
I use these in my rabbits' boxes and they expand to a light, airy bedding that’s simple to spread. Absorption is impressive — moisture pulls down quickly and the surface stays dry. Mild pine scent, low dust, gentle on feet, and cleanup is straightforward.

Compacts well, fluffs up into cozy nests
The compressed block blooms into a fluffy layer once opened. Shavings are soft, clean and cushion nesting areas nicely. Liquid soaks in quickly, which helps reduce odors, and the wood scent is natural rather than perfumed. Minimal fine dust and compostable after use.

Good quality shavings, higher cost option
The material is fine and soft with almost no splinters and minimal dust. It controls odors reasonably well and the bag is neatly packed so you can grab a handful without a mess. Quality is solid, though I’ve found similarly performing shavings from other sources.

Label confusion — hemp or pine?
Not sure what the material is called on the bag, but once opened it expands well, is virtually odorless and has very little dust. That low dust is important around chicks, and they seem to find it comfortable so far.
