Product description
This nesting box kit arrives assembled and ready to mount. Included is one pre-built nesting box constructed using screwed wooden joints and brass screws for corrosion resistance. External dimensions are 14.5cm x 25cm x 21.5cm (W×H×D).
The box is intended for cavity-nesting birds and features a semi-open oval entrance that facilitates access for robins and similar species. The interior wall is deliberately roughened to help nestlings grip, and the body includes ventilation holes and drainage channels to maintain a healthier microclimate.
Construction follows conservation guidelines: panels are approximately 2cm thick solid wood for insulation and durability. The material is 100% untreated, FSC-certified timber, chosen for longevity and environmental responsibility. Screwed wooden elements secure the structure rather than glue or staples.
For use, mount the box on a sheltered wall, under an eave, or on a tree at appropriate height for the target species. The semi-cave opening and roof protect against sun and rain while allowing parents easy in-and-out access. Regularly open the secured panels for seasonal cleaning; the design permits straightforward maintenance to support healthy occupancy.
Pros
- Durable construction with brass screws
- Species-appropriate interior and ventilation
- Made from untreated FSC-certified solid wood
Cons
- Entrance may be small for some species
- Occasional natural wood odor noted
- Not suitable for larger cavity-nesting birds
VerdictA thoughtfully designed wooden nesting box that follows conservation recommendations: thick, untreated FSC timber with a semi-open oval entrance, roughened interior, ventilation and drainage. It’s sturdy thanks to brass fasteners and screwed wooden joints, easy to install and clean, and appeals to small cavity-nesters. Some users note the entrance size and occasional natural wood scent, but overal

My first bird rental
I installed this because birds kept losing nests in my fruit trees. The design gives good shelter from sun and rain while staying open enough for parents to come and go. The wood has a faint smell at first, which didn’t bother me. It arrived assembled — just put it up and wait. Very happy with it.

Attractive and sturdy
Nice looking and well built. Update: a bird used it — hooray! Still waiting to see if it becomes a regular home. I couldn’t have made one this well myself.

Birds are curious daily
Good quality boxes — bluebirds and titmice have been checking them every day.

Well made but too small
Construction is beautiful, but the internal size is smaller than expected. Only tiny birds can use it and the cavity-style opening could make some nests vulnerable to predators. I returned it.

Painted and solid
I painted it to match the house and it looks great. Construction feels robust and I mounted it under the porch for protection. It already has two drainage holes and the size seems appropriate for robins — fingers crossed they move in.

No tenants yet, looks great
So far no bird has moved in, but it looks nice on the terrace and starts conversations. Very good quality. The entrance hole might be a touch small.

Solid, well designed shelter
Works well as a shelter. My camera enjoys the new view and the box keeps birds protected from the weather.

Good woodwork and guide included
Well-made, made from certified FSC wood as described. It arrived well packed and already assembled, with an included leaflet about sparrows, robins and other small birds and their nesting periods. The wood repels initial water run-off, though I added three coats of preservative for extra durability. The maker suggests removing it in winter and reinstalling before nesting season. I didn’t experience screw-hole splitting, though others have mentioned it.

High quality, quickly visited
Very good quality. The box was inspected by birds the day after I put it up. I bought it after seeing birds looking for shelter nearby.
