Product description
Brand reputation: John James is a longstanding European needle maker known among stitchers for consistent quality and craftsmanship.
Construction and dimensions: These saddlers/harness needles are steel, each measuring 54mm in length with a 1.02mm diameter. The pack contains 25 individual needles.
Point and eye: Each needle features a large, rounded point to pass through thick materials without cutting them, and an eye sized to accept common heavier threads. They are built to resist breakage under typical hand-sewing stresses and work particularly well with linen or waxed thread.
Uses and applications: These needles are intended for all types of hand-stitched leather work — from shoe and belt repair to saddle and harness maintenance, leather garments, gloves and moccasins. They perform well on leather, suede, vinyl and softer plastics and are useful for both professional saddlers and hobby leatherworkers. The pack of 25 gives enough spares for ongoing projects and repairs, making them a practical addition to any leathercraft or repair kit. They enable the creation of durable handmade pieces suitable for gifts, restorations, or custom projects.
Pros
- Sturdy steel construction with 54mm length
- Large rounded point pierces thick materials easily
- Pack of 25 provides plenty of spares
Cons
- Eye could be slightly larger for very thick thread
- May feel bulky for very fine leather holes
- Not suitable for machine sewing
VerdictSolid, reliable leather needles intended for hand-stitching heavier materials. The 54mm steel shafts and generous rounded points make them durable and easier to push through leather, suede, vinyl and soft plastics. Threading is straightforward with most natural threads and the 25-count keeps you stocked for multiple projects.

Strong, but a touch large for tiny holes
Solid leather needles that hold up well. I got size 0/0 and they feel slightly too big for my needs — they can be tricky to push through my 1/16" holes.

Exactly what I needed
Exactly what I needed for leather stitching.

Durable and bends before breaking
I've tried many brands and used to break eyes or snap shafts on simple jobs. These needles flex rather than shatter, which feels safer. My only minor gripe is the eye could be a bit larger to make threading quicker.

Good eye size and resilient
Excellent needles; the eye accepts longer thread easily. No breaks so far.

Tough, threaded easily, no breaks so far
I don't work with leather constantly, but these matched many recommendations. They feel very durable, thread easily, and I haven't snapped one despite heavy pulling. The 25 count should cover losses over time.

Better than the starter kit needles
They do exactly what reviewers say. As a beginner, I find them far superior to the cheap needles from my starter set.
