One of my family’s favorite fall traditions is visiting the local apple orchard. The season brings hay rides, warm apple cider donuts, and of course, baskets full of fresh apples ready to pick. Many orchards also offer other produce, but this is the time of year when apples are everywhere and at their best.
We often come home with more apples than we can eat in a few days. Over the next couple of weeks they become quick snacks, baked treats, and sometimes the base for simple DIY beauty projects. Turning seasonal fruit into a homemade scrub is an easy, affordable way to enjoy the aroma and gentle exfoliation apples can contribute.
I have sensitive skin, so I prefer scrubs made from gentle, natural ingredients. This apple cinnamon body scrub exfoliates without harsh abrasives, using brown sugar and coconut oil to moisturize while applesauce and cinnamon add fragrance and a soothing, natural touch. It smells delicious and makes a lovely small-batch gift or a spa-like addition to your own bathroom.

Apple Cinnamon Body Scrub
Ingredients:
1 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup natural applesauce (unsweetened if possible)
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
4–5 4 oz. jelly jars (or other small airtight containers)
Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, combine the coconut oil, brown sugar, applesauce, and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly until the texture is even and the sugar is well distributed. If your coconut oil is solid, you can gently warm it first until it softens — avoid high heat.
2. Scoop the scrub into 4 oz. jelly jars or other small containers. Seal tightly. Use within 2–3 months for best freshness. If the mixture separates over time, simply stir before each use to recombine the ingredients.
{Stored in an airtight container, this scrub will keep for about 2–3 months. If you notice separation, stir the mixture to restore consistency.}

How to use: Scoop a small amount onto damp skin and massage gently in circular motions, concentrating on rough areas like elbows, knees, or heels. Rinse with warm water and pat skin dry. Because this scrub contains natural oils, your bath or shower may be slightly slippery — take care when standing and rinse the tub afterward.
Skin tips and considerations: This scrub is formulated for gentle exfoliation and moisturizing, but everyone’s skin reacts differently. If you have very sensitive or allergy-prone skin, test a small amount on the inside of your wrist and wait 24 hours to check for any irritation. Avoid using on broken or sunburned skin. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
Variations and additions: You can personalize the recipe by swapping brown sugar for white sugar for a finer texture, or by adding a few drops of essential oil such as vanilla or sweet orange for extra fragrance. For a deeper scrub, increase the sugar slightly; for a more moisturizing blend, add a little more coconut oil. Using unsweetened applesauce helps keep the scent natural and reduces the risk of sticky residue.
Storage and gifting: Packaged in small glass jars, this scrub makes an attractive homemade gift during autumn and winter holidays. Label jars with the date and ingredients. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If you prefer refrigeration for extra freshness, bring jars to room temperature before use so the coconut oil softens.
