Product description
The Light Dome 90 is a 90 cm (3 ft) circular softbox built around a 16-sided frame to produce a natural, round catchlight and a wide, even spread. It ships with the outer diffusion panel, an internal baffle that softens the falloff, a honeycomb control grid for narrowing beam spread, and a padded carry bag for transport and storage.
The frame uses multiple lightweight rods (commonly fiberglass in this class) arranged into the 16-sided circular form; a quick-release rod system lets you mount and tension the canopy faster than older pole-through-center designs. The softbox fits standard Bowens-style mounts and is rated for use with many COB and LED fixtures up to 600W, making it compatible with larger studio lights and a wide range of Amaran/Aputure heads.
Use the inner baffle alone for moderate diffusion, add the outer diffuser for very soft wraparound light, or attach the honeycomb grid to control spill and increase directionality. The softbox is intended for studio and on-location work where a large, flattering light source is required; its 90 cm size balances coverage with portability.
Pros
- Large, round, natural-looking light
- Wide Bowens compatibility (up to 600W)
- Comes with baffle, diffusion, grid, and carrying bag
Cons
- Assembly can be fiddly at first
- Rods can be under high tension and may break
- Bulky when packed compared with smaller modifiers
VerdictThe Light Dome 90 is a purpose-built modifier for photographers and videographers who need a large, round soft source. It delivers smooth, wraparound illumination ideal for portraits and small groups, and its Bowens mount works with many lights up to 600W. The quick-release rod method speeds setups, and the included inner baffle, outer diffusion, and honeycomb grid give flexible shaping options. C

Solid construction and reliable performance
The overall quality exceeded expectations — seams and materials are tight and durable. Mounting takes just a press-and-twist on the Bowens adapter, and the result is consistently soft, even illumination.

Easy setup and clean light spread
Assembly was straightforward and the softbox delivers a clean, even beam. The honeycomb adds useful directionality, and the unit feels sturdy once mounted to a Bowens fixture.

Soft, flattering light but longer setup time
Performance is excellent and the 16-sided circle gives a natural reflection. Materials are robust, though inserting the rods into their tracks can take a little longer; starting with the marked red points helps balance the tension.

Highly recommended for reliable, professional results
This softbox feels professional from the materials to the finished light. Rods and fabric hold shape well, assembly is smoother than similar models, and the output is soft and even — ideal for video and photo work.

Studio-grade soft light that flatters subjects
As a creator and photographer I rely on soft, flattering light. This 33.5"-class dome gives very even, wraparound illumination that cuts harsh shadows and looks natural on faces and products. The size is generous for portraits without blowing out details, and the included grid helps when I need more control.

Great output but setup can frustrate
I like the light quality, but the frame can be a bit fragile during initial assembly. Some of the small bars are easy to snap if you rush the build.

Feature-rich and thoughtfully designed
Well-built with multiple flexible rods that hold shape while remaining light. The frame labels and collapsing pattern make putting it together quicker, the honeycomb provides precise control, and the softbox is still portable thanks to the carry case.

Handy travel-friendly modifier
This octagonal-style dome packs well for trips and has been a reliable travel option. Recommended for on-location work.

Too fragile for heavy use
The rod tension exceeded what they could handle; several broke during assembly. After more than three decades using flash gear, I found this mount surprisingly delicate and had to buy replacement rods before it was usable.

Arrived damaged
The diffuser had a hole in one seam when it arrived. Delivery took longer than expected and the damaged piece was disappointing.

Broad, consistent coverage for varied shoots
The dome's diameter and multi-sided reflector produce a smooth spread, perfect for portraits and small groups. Bowens compatibility lets it pair with many lights, and the build quality feels purposeful — the fabric and seams stand up to repeated use.

Even light and surprisingly fast assembly
After studying the instructions I assembled it quickly by aligning markers and seating the rods step by step. Velcro closures and baffles snap in fast, and mounting to the Bowens flange is easiest with the dome set on the floor for leverage.
