Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Primer: Full Review & Wear Test

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Hydrating Primer Review | Annie's Noms

Happy Thursday! Today I’m sharing my review of the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Primer. With the colder months arriving, my skin has been drier than usual, so I wanted a primer that would give extra hydration while helping my foundation last.

The Hydrating Primer launched alongside Fenty’s Hydrating Foundation. I haven’t had luck finding a matching foundation shade in stores despite the wide shade range, but that didn’t stop me from trying the primer — and I’m glad I did.

Below I cover price, packaging, claims and my full experience using the primer with several foundations and concealers.

COST

The Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Primer retails for £24 for 30 ml, which works out to about £0.80 per ml. For a prestige beauty product I find the price fair — it’s comparable or even more economical than many other primers I own.

PACKAGING

The primer comes in a frosted glass bottle with a pump and a lid. The bottle feels weighty and well-made, the pump dispenses cleanly without splattering, and the minimalist design looks polished on a vanity.

CLAIMS

  • Lightweight
  • Instantly nourishing
  • Silky smooth formula
  • Keeps skin comfortable all day
  • Extends foundation wear
  • Fast absorbing

I find these claims accurate. The texture is lightweight yet hydrating, it smooths the skin, absorbs quickly, and leaves the complexion comfortable and primed for makeup. In my experience it also helps foundation wear longer and appear smoother throughout the day.

REVIEW

The primer is a light-pink, gel-lotion with a mild fragrance — similar to a face cream. If you’re sensitive to scent, note that it isn’t fragrance-free, though the scent is subtle and fades soon after application.

Texture-wise it’s thicker than a runny serum. It doesn’t spread infinitely thin, so I use about three pumps to cover my face evenly. That means you might go through the bottle faster than with more spreadable primers, but the payoff for me has been worth it.

I have combination skin — an oily T-zone and drier cheeks, with occasional flakes around the chin, nose and forehead. I’ve tested this primer under six different foundations and the results have been consistently good. Foundations apply smoothly, don’t appear cakey, and cling less to dry patches. If you have pronounced flaking you’ll still notice it, but overall the primer hydrates and creates a much smoother canvas.

The primer remains slightly tacky until foundation is applied, which helps makeup adhere and stay put. I’ve worn makeup over this primer for 12 hours or more without needing touch-ups; on some occasions the finish stayed flawless all day. Concealers also perform well layered on top — some needed minimal touching up much later in the day, while others lasted through the day without issue.

My foundation didn’t settle heavily into pores or separate prematurely. In my experience separation began only after roughly 14 hours, at which point I usually remove makeup anyway. Overall it dramatically improved longevity and wear for my preferred foundations and concealers.

I recommend this primer for normal, combination and dry skin types. I can’t confidently speak to performance on very oily skin, but Fenty does offer a mattifying Pro Filt’r primer option for those who need oil control.
