Ramadan Food Stories: Preserving Global Culinary Traditions and Recipes

This Ramadan I’m launching a new project to celebrate and preserve traditional recipes from around the world, and to invite you, dear readers, to share your family stories and culinary traditions. I’m calling it the Ramadan 2022 Global Culinary Traditions Project (use hashtag #myhalalkitchengctp on social media). Below you’ll find clear instructions for submitting your recipe and story so we can feature them during this special season.

If you have a meaningful recipe tied to a family custom, holiday ritual, or cultural memory, please consider contributing it to My Halal Kitchen for inclusion in the Ramadan 2022 Global Culinary Traditions Project. We want authentic stories that show how a particular tradition has been preserved, adapted, or passed down through generations.

Before submitting, please read the submission guidelines carefully and send your entry to: co*****@************************************ps.com. By submitting you grant My Halal Kitchen permission to publish, print, and share your content across this website, social media, and newsletter channels.

  1. The recipe and story must be your original work, or you must have explicit permission to share it. Please credit any co-authors or collaborators.
  2. Recipes should be tested and written for an American audience, using familiar measurements and temperature units (Fahrenheit). You may also include metric or European measurements as an additional reference.
  3. Each submission must include at least one photo of the finished dish. You may include up to five photos. Images should be clear and appropriately sized for web use.
  4. All submissions must be received by April 15, 2022 to be considered for this year’s project.

We welcome a wide variety of dishes and stories: family favorites for iftar, regional specialties, sweet treats for Eid, or heirloom recipes that carry special meaning. When you submit, please include the recipe title, a short introduction explaining its significance, a full ingredient list with measurements, step-by-step instructions, and any tips for preparing the dish. If possible, add a note about the cultural context or personal memory that accompanies the recipe—those details help bring each tradition to life.

Submissions that are clear, well-photographed, and show thoughtful storytelling are most helpful for readers who want to try the recipes at home and learn about the traditions behind them. We aim to build a global collection that honors diversity and preserves culinary heritage for future Ramadan seasons.

If you have questions about formatting, image sizes, or what to include in the story portion, please send an email to the address above. We look forward to receiving your contributions and sharing your culinary traditions with our community this Ramadan.
