I enjoy keeping in touch with friends and family on Facebook. It’s a simple way to stay connected even when we live far apart.

One of those relatives is my cousin Mackenzie, who lives near Pittsburgh while I’m down in Georgia. We can’t drop by for a visit, but Facebook lets us chat and trade memories.

During a recent conversation we started talking about grandmother’s recipes. I never got many of hers written down—she was known for her cooking, but I didn’t collect her recipes when I was younger.

We spent a lot of time on her dairy farm when I was a kid. As a tomboy, I preferred wandering the fields, exploring the barns, or begging to drive the tractor—so I didn’t end up preserving her recipes the way I should have.

I mentioned I wished I had some of her handwritten recipes. To my surprise, Mackenzie replied that she had copies—actual pages in our grandmother’s handwriting. I expected it would take a while to get them, but within minutes she sent about twenty recipes through Messenger.

peanut Butter, Oatmeal and vanilla extract

Among the recipes were these classic no-bake cookies. I had the ingredients on hand, so I made a batch within the hour. They’re wonderfully simple and come together quickly.

I couldn’t wait for the kids to try one of Grandma’s cookies.

I’m excited to try more of her handwritten recipes—sharing family history, one cookie at a time.
