Product description
This conversion kit provides a way to hang a pendant or other ceiling fixture from an existing recessed can without removing the can or cutting new openings. The kit is intended for retrofit use, turning a recessed downlight into a hanging light source with minimal ceiling disruption.
Inside the package you’ll find a white decorative medallion that conceals the can opening, an adjustable mounting bar that expands to fit the interior of the can, a medium-base socket adapter that taps into the existing lamp holder, and the mounting hardware required to secure the assembly. The decorative medallion is paintable so it can be matched to surrounding finishes.
The adjustable support is designed to accommodate recessed cans nominally between 4 inches and 6 inches in diameter. The socket adapter accepts many common medium-base lamps including a range of PAR, BR and standard A-series styles, making it compatible with a variety of fixtures. The kit is rated to support hanging fixtures up to 50 pounds and is CETL listed for safety. It is suitable for damp locations and is manufactured in China. Reference number 0101100 (product family 01011).
Pros
- Converts 4–6 inch cans without major remodeling
- Includes paintable medallion and mounting hardware
- Supports fixtures up to 50 lb and is CETL listed
Cons
- Self-tapping screws often require pre-drilling
- Plastic medallion is glossy out of the box
- Not as secure as a joist-mounted electrical box
VerdictA practical, no-demolition solution for converting recessed cans into suspended fixtures. Installation usually requires basic tools and a drill with metal bits for the self-tapping screws, but once mounted the bracket and medallion provide a neat, paintable finish and firm support for most pendants up to 50 pounds. Compatibility with many medium-base bulb types and the CETL listing add confidence,

Follow the video instructions
The kit performed well but the printed instructions were lacking. I watched installation videos and used the included mounting plate instead of the fixture’s plate for a neater fit.

Highly recommended — simple install
Installed this and it worked flawlessly. The screws didn’t always bite into the can, so I pre-drilled starter holes, then wiring and fitting the pendant went smoothly. All parts matched and installation was trouble-free. Very pleased.

Sturdy and well made
Bought to hang a light over the stairwell. Had an electrician assist and he was impressed with the fit and strength. Claims up to 50 lb and the hardware feels robust. Looks professional when installed.

Requires metal drill bits to install
The screws won’t pierce thicker cans without a metal bit. Once I had proper bits it went in fine. Don’t set the support bar too deep or you’ll have trouble seating the medallion plate.

Easy install and looks good
These converted my hallway cans nicely. I had to bend the metal plate a touch so the surround sat flush, but once adjusted they look great. I’ll paint the medallion and update later on finish.

Great for switching to pendants
We converted pot lights over the island to pendants with a straightforward install. For small cans the medallion wasn’t needed; for larger cans it conceals the hole nicely.

Did the job as expected
I was skeptical after an electrician quoted far more to do the same conversion, but this kit made it straightforward. The self-tapping screws can wander, so I punched starter holes first. Took about 30 minutes per light including adding the fixture, and the painted medallion blends in nicely.

Dependable kit I've repurchased
Bought two units years apart and both were simple to fit and worked reliably. If I need another conversion, I’d pick the same kit again.

Worked on a sloped ceiling
Installation was mostly straightforward though the self-piercing screws needed a hammer to start. Important tip: position the cross-bar for the pitch of the ceiling — I found a horizontal orientation gave better support on my cathedral ceiling.

Solid solution with drilling needed
This kit does the conversion well but plan to drill the can. I marked screw locations, punched starter dents, and had to apply steady drill pressure for the screws to bite. Very sturdy once secured and holds the fixture without issue.

Saved a lot of time and hassle
Converted three 4" can lights to pendants easily. The extendable bracket was a bit fiddly with thicker cans but once set it worked well. Make sure your can model matches the kit specs before buying.

Flexible and easy to use
Flexible bracket design allowed me to replace a recessed pot with a pendant just like advertised. Happy with the final look and function.

Perfect for installing a chandelier
Allowed me to add a chandelier without removing the metal can. The adapter taps into the lamp socket and provides hot/neutral leads; a bracket fastens to the can walls for support. Not as strong as a joist box, but very convenient for many fixtures.
