Product description
SILCA Super Secret is a wax-style chain lubricant supplied in a compact drip bottle with a precision tip for controlled application. The formula blends a wax base with nano-scale tungsten disulfide particles to reduce friction and encourage smooth, quiet operation.
The product is intended as a between-service touch-up to complement hot-melt rewaxing cycles: drip onto a clean, degreased chain, allow the applied fluid to dry and cure, then ride. The coating forms a thin, low-friction layer that helps keep contaminants from sticking and can be used after rain without immediately washing away.
No aggressive degreasers are built into the formula; the lubricant emphasizes cleanliness and environmental safety while protecting metal surfaces. The packaging is sized for repeated touch-ups and fits conveniently in a workshop drawer or saddle bag for routine maintenance.
Pros
- Produces a quiet, low-friction chain feel
- Keeps drivetrain cleaner with less grime buildup
- Long-lasting protection between heavier wax services
Cons
- Needs meticulous degreasing and prep before first use
- Requires full drying time before riding
- Higher upfront cost compared with simple wet lubes
VerdictThis drip wax delivers a dry, near-silent drivetrain feel and a protective low-friction coating that resists grime. It requires thorough chain prep and drying time but repays the effort with cleaner running, reduced wear, and extended service intervals.

Keeps drivetrain tidy and whisper-quiet
I've used this on my road bike to avoid the greasy mess typical of wet lubes. Application is simple and after it sets the drivetrain runs smoothly and quietly. Dirt clings far less, and it has become a go-to maintenance item for routine rides.

Prep is a bit of work but payoff is clear
You must remove all trace oils before first use. I followed directions and after two weeks of mixed-weather riding it performs excellently. No oily paste builds up and rain has little immediate effect. Once initially set up, upkeep is straightforward.

Handy interim wax between hot-wax sessions
I use this as a drip wax when I'm between hot-wax treatments. Best applied with a glove and worked into the rollers since it can run off if left to drip.

Outperformed decades of lubricants
I've ridden for over 50 years and tried many lubricants. Initially skeptical after a bad experience with another brand, I tested this on a touring bike and was impressed. It's wax-based, not greasy, and remains quiet even after rain. Chain and gear wear seem reduced and a single application lasts much longer than many liquid lubes.

Reliable on long gravel rides
Used extensively on Colorado gravel and found it smooth, clean, durable and quiet. I've switched my bikes to wax-based lubes and this is now my preferred choice.

Transforms performance for regular riders
Year-round rider here — from the first outing the drivetrain felt silky and much quieter. It also keeps things cleaner than traditional lubes and the drip tip makes precise application easy. After several hundred miles I'm seeing less gunk and reduced wear. It costs more than simple lubes but delivers professional-grade results.

Disappointed — requires perfect prep to work
Needs a thoroughly degreased chain and full 24-hour dry time. When those steps aren't followed I experienced sticky links, lumps and poor adhesion. With proper prep it can work, but in my case it failed without meticulous cleaning.

Worth the preparation and choice of additives
After years using a dry wax product I switched to this modern formula with tungsten disulfide. I prepped a Dura-Ace 10s chain thoroughly—boiled, soaked, scrubbed, flashed off solvents and rinsed—then applied the lube. The result has been a very clean-running chain and a feeling that the chemistry is doing what it should.
