Product description
Use schedule: Repot Dendrobium orchids roughly every 12–18 months to refresh the root zone and encourage healthy growth and reliable flowering.
What’s in the bag: This mix blends porous lava rock, western fir bark, pieces of hardwood charcoal and coarse perlite. Those components create a chunky, open structure that supports fast drainage and steady airflow around roots.
Material details and sizes: The media contains large bark pieces and lava fragments combined with coarse perlite and charcoal bits. Particle sizes are aimed at keeping the potting mass airy rather than compacting into a soggy block.
How to use: No mixing required — the medium is ready to use straight from the package. Gently remove the plant from its pot, clear old media from the root ball, and position the orchid in fresh mix so roots have good contact with the substrate while remaining exposed to air.
Quantity: Packaged as an 8-quart bag, it supplies enough substrate for multiple Dendrobiums or a larger specimen, depending on pot size and how often you repot.
Pros
- Loose, chunky structure prevents compaction
- Includes charcoal and lava rock for airflow
- Ready to use from the bag
Cons
- Large particles may be too coarse for smaller pots

- Single-purpose blend focused on Dendrobiums
VerdictA practical, no-frills potting medium designed to meet the moisture and aeration needs of Dendrobium orchids. The chunky particle mix resists compaction, promotes rapid drainage, and helps prevent root rot while still retaining pockets of moisture. It’s simple to use right out of the bag and provides enough material for multiple repots at 8 quarts. Ideal for growers who want a dependable orchid su

Repeat buyer — chunky pieces I like
This is my second bag. The chunks are large and substantial, which suits the open-root habit of my Dendrobiums.

Too coarse for some setups
The bag is mostly big bark chunks with very little perlite or charcoal; not ideal if you want a finer, more balanced mix.

More than I needed
Good orchid medium, but the 8-quart volume is larger than necessary if you only have a single small plant.
